Congratulations On Your Acceptance to NKU!
Dear Student,On behalf of the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS), we would like to say that we are all very excited about your arrival to our university in January. It will be a busy and exhilarating time for all of us, so get your rest while you can. As OISS staff, we are pleased to assist in your adjustment to the campus and community. We are here to aid you with personal, social, academic, cultural and immigration matters but our main role is to be friendly faces that you can come to with any need.
We have planned several orientation activities during your first week on campus that will to help you with your initial adjustment to life at NKU and the United States. It is very important that you arrange your travel plans to enable your attendance. These activities are extremely important for achieving your personal and academic goals at NKU.
We anticipate your arrival to the Greater Cincinnati area sometime during the week of January 5, 2009. To assist us in our preparations for your arrival, we do request that you send us details of your arrival, for example, date, time, and flight number. Please send us an email with this information to oiss@nku.edu. For those of you who will be living in the residence halls, we can use this information to inform Residential Life of your approximate arrival. Please note: You will not be permitted to attend NKU this semester if your arrival at NKU is past the expected reporting date listed on your Form I-20.
One final note about your arrival! All new international students must register for a Check-in session. In order to register for a Check-in session, you must come to the Office of International Students and Scholars (University Center, Room 366) upon your arrival to NKU. At the Check-in session, you will receive important information that you will need regarding immigration, registration and other life practicalities. If you do not do this, it will have an impact on your ability to register for classes. For those arriving early, we are happy to offer a Check-in session on December 19th, 2008. For all others, we have two additional Check-in sessions scheduled on January 7, 2009 and January 9, 2009. All Check-in sessions will be held in the Otto Budig Theater from 11am – 12:30pm. English placement testing (if applicable) is available for students prior to the Check-In session beginning at 9am. Attendance in one of our Check-in sessions is required.
We welcome you to Northern Kentucky University. It will be a pleasure getting to know each of you in the very near future. If you need any further information, please contact the Office of International Students and Scholars at (859) 572-6517 or email to oiss@nku.edu.
